Important Notice Regarding Electronic Devices

Dear Parent/Guardian,

In order to protect the safety of your adolescent, New York City Department of Education Chancellor’s Regulation A 412 Section V prohibits any electronic devices in school.  In addition, bringing prohibited equipment or material to school (e.g., cell phone, beeper, or other electronic communication/entertainment devices) is a violation of Citywide Standards of Discipline and Intervention Measures (The Discipline Code) -B05.  Our policy at Marta Valle High School regarding all electronic devices is consistent with the Chancellor’s Regulation:
If a cell phone, iPods or other electronic device is observed by Marta Valle High School Staff, it will be confiscated.
·        Cell phones, iPods, and ALL other electronic devices will be returned to parent/guardian only at an Academic Intervention Conference with the Dean and or Principal, Assistant Principal, student, and parent/guardian on the third Wednesday of every month immediately before the Parent Association meeting.  The next date to retrieve electronic devices will be: Wednesday, December 15, 2010 from 4:00-6:00 PM.
Safety and security of our students are our primary concern.  It is for this reason that we are urgently requesting that cell phones and other electronic devices be left at home.  They are a distraction and pose a safety hazard to our school community.  The thefts of cell phones and other electronic devices have become a citywide epidemic.  Students are being approached on their way home from school in an attempt to steal these items, and in some cases in New York City and nationwide, students have been assaulted.  All members of the Marta Valle educational community are committed to ensuring the safety and security of our students.
If an emergency occurs and you wish to contact your child, please call the Marta Valle High School Office at 212.473.8152.  Remind your adolescents to leave their cell phones and all other electronic devices at home.  Your cooperation, support, and partnership is greatly appreciated in our efforts to ensure safety for your adolescent and all students at Marta Valle High School.

Most warmly,

Mimi Fortunato,
Principal, IA
